Volume One's original songs include "Headcase" (from the band's Uppression CD) and rarities like swampy guitar rocker "Sucker Like Me," Bonefish Johnny's profane yet loving evocation of beach music in "Sugar In My Whiskey" and the inexplicable metal-jazz of "God Is Wood." Among the covers is a pair of funked-up Willie Dixon tunes, "Wang Dang Doodle" and Cold Blood's arrangement of "I Just Want To Make Love To You," a seamless jam of The Meters' "Africa" into "Jungleman," a peppery take on The Chambers Brothers' "Love, Peace & Happiness" and an exuberant reworking of the Dead's "Shakedown Street." Requisite JB cut for this set is opener "There It Is".
